• Fashion visionary, Alexander McQueen, is found dead from an apparent suicide in his London apartment. It has been reported that the British fashion designer was depressed following the recent death of his beloved mother, Joyce.

• New York City’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week begins in Bryant Park for the last time. In September 2010, Fashion Week will be moved to NYC’s Lincoln Center.

• Estee Lauder stops production of its 30-year-old Prescriptives brand. Prescriptives counters in department stores cease operating forever. Prescriptives products are still available for die-hard fans online (www.prescriptives.com) while supplies last. Estee Lauder promises to continue production of Calyx, the perfume, which will continue to be sold in fine department stores.
