If your home is “cozy” with minimal kitchen counter space, you know about living small. If you only need to prepare one cup of coffee daily (or rarely), you may not want to invest in or give up the counter space for an electric coffee maker. Well, you don’t have to! You have options, chica. And here is one:

Melitta coffee maker - manual

Looks simple, doesn’t it? It is! Simple to use, simple to clean and simple to store. The Melitta® Pour-Over Coffee Brewer is so simple, yet it is ingenious. Just two parts: a ceramic mug and a plastic brewing cone that sits on top of it. How to use it? Boil some water, place the brewing cone over the mug and add a #2 size paper coffee filter. Add two scoops or so of coffee. Pour boiling water into the cone until the mug is filled.

That’s it! To make another cup, just repeat the process.

What I love about it? It’s perfect for people who are living small or on the move!  The plastic brewing cone can be easily thrown in a suitcase or handbag and used while traveling. Personally, I like being able to make coffee in my hotel room when I’m away. However, I don’t trust the cleanliness of the in-room hotel electric coffee makers. I always find myself cleaning the coffeemaker (including the water reservoir) in the bathroom with hot water and wait for it…shampoo! (I don’t usually travel with dishwashing liquid, no room for that in my 1 qt. plastic bag.) This coffee maker decontamination routine is always such a hassle, but if I don’t personally clean the coffeemaker, I won’t use it.

Now, I can just bring my brewing cone and some paper filters. After boiling some water in the microwave, I can quickly make a hot, fresh cup of java using my own coffee or the coffee packs in the room. And the only thing I have to wash beforehand is the hotel’s coffee mug! Much simpler, don’t you think?

I found my brewer at a local store, but it is also available online. The brewing cone is also sold separately.

Note: Melitta also produces 6-cup and 10-cup versions of the Pour-Over Coffee Brewer.
